Net Meeting Help

Author: Ken Marlborough

Net Meeting is an effective communication tool on the Internet. Net Meeting can be downloaded from the Microsoft site for free and is available with Windows 2000 and newer versions. Other Windows users need to download it. It is easy to install and the features are user friendly. Today, there are several other types of Net Meeting software available on the Internet.

Communication is done between two or more persons, so once you have installed Net Meeting you need to find contacts. It is cost effective and easy to talk to friends using Net Meeting. You can enter contact address of those people whom you know. Microsoft Internet Diary is the ideal place to search for new contacts. In Net Meeting, open "Find Someone in a Directory" and look for "Select a Directory" and select the directory you need. A search window will now appear. In that enter all the necessary details about the person you want to find. Once you have entered the information, click "Submit." Now the names of those persons matching your details will appear. Select from the list the person you want to contact. Internet Locator Server (ILS) and History, which contains contacts made in the past are the other places to look for contacts. History feature is of no use to a new user.

One of the most important features in Net Meeting is that you can receive and send video. A Pentium 133 processor or higher version and 56,000 bps or faster modem is required to send and receive video and audio files. To receive video, click on the "Tools" menu and in that point to "Video" and click on "Receive." To send video, invite someone and click on "Start Video." Chat is easy to use. For this, just click on the chat and in the dialogue box that appears enter your text on the area marked "Message." Click on the person or persons you want to send message and click "Submit." To send files, go to "Transfer files" and select "File Transfer." Click "Add files" button and select files you want to send. The next processes are similar to sending messages in chat. There are also features to cancel and remove files. Click "Share Program" button and in the "Sharing" dialog box select the program you want to share and click "Share."
