Earth Changes... Well, I personally think that earth changes are both real and understated, but these changes are getting far less worldwide attention than they deserve. The following facts and statistics were all gleaned from the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program (www.earthquake.usgs.gov/), so you can check them out and verify them yourself. This past month, from April 1st to April 28th (of 2005), there were 135 earthquakes measuring 5.0 and above on the Richter scale worldwide. Of those 135, 18 measured above 6.0. More alarming still is the fact that of these 135 earthquakes, over 70 of them hit the country (and/or waters) of Indonesion - IN ONE MONTH! Why haven't we heard more about this? Indonesia is hardly a huge country- it's total area of land and water covers just over 1.9 million sqare kilometers. To put this in more understandable terms, the country is just under three times the size of Texas, and I was surprised that so much seismic activity was occuring in such a small geographical area. A natural self-skeptic, I went back across the past 20 years to see if this is normal for the area - the only real explaination I could think of to explain the lack of media attention. That, or that there weren't enough people there to consider this a serious matter. What I discovered was this - this increased earthquake activity is NOT normal! In addition, I learned that the population of Indonesion is just over 241 million. In comparison, the entire United States is estimated to ave a population of just over 295 million people. Another interesting thing I found is that, looking back across the years, there seems to be an increased amount of seismic activity in years ending with 5. Once again, you can verify this by visiting their website. Add to this the recent development that recently, several of Indonesia's 130 active volcanoes are at a hightened alert level, and this can all seem a little overwhelming. Frankly, I find these facts more startling than any prophecies or predictions I've read. All I'm left with are more questions: **What does this mean for Indonesians? **Is this a portent for future catastrophe (and if so, should we be looking for someone or something to emerge from these catastrophes?) **And, most importantly - Why haven't we heard more about all of this?
